MiG Ayesa wows the crowd at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on Dec. 12.  (Filipino Reporter photos)

MiG Ayesa gave what seemed to be the greatest performance of his life at his “farewell USA” concert on Dec. 12 titled “Here i AM - Here i GO” at the comely Highline Ballroom on West 16th Street in Manhattan.

Loyal fans and friends came in full force to catch the extremely gifted but down to earth Fil-Aussie artist in his last U.S. gig before flying to London to star for six months in the West End production of “Thriller Live!” the Michael Jackson tribute musical, where MiG received critical raves when he first joined the show’s UK tour in 2007.

MiG was very much in his element as he played keyboards and belted out tracks mostly from his sophomore pop rock album, “More Than Ever,” which he also launched that night with support from MiG’s brilliant band, as well as fellow world-class artists Mike Clifford and Alegar.

MiG dazzled the crowd with his soulful chops and a very soothing voice that is distinctly his own, capping it with a jaw-dropping rendition of Peter Frampton’s “Baby, I Love Your Way,” the song that almost bagged him the top prize in the CBS reality search show “Rock Star: INXS” in 2007; he placed third.

In June 2012, MiG is heading to the Philippines to star in the Asian production of the smash hit musical “Rock of Ages” and reprise his highly-acclaimed Broadway role as Stacee Jaxx.

Atlantic Production, a prolific theater company based in Manila, is hoping to attract theater aficionados from all over Asia to see MiG, who is hailed by many of America’s critics as “the best Stacee Jaxx ever.”

(The same role is being essayed by Tom Cruise in the musical’s film version for 2012 release.)

Unknown to many, MiG is not just all music.

He’s also involved in humanitarian efforts such as the campaign called NOH8 (No Hate) that helps end bullying and promote acceptance and understanding of sexual preference.

He is also active with LOVE146, a campaign to fight child slavery and exploitation.

During his stay in the Philippines next year, he is scheduled to visit safe houses for sexually-abused children.
