The year 2011 is shaping up to be a year of “firsts” for the Philippine American Friendship Committee (PAFCOM), which will have a dedicated coronation night separate from the Phil-Am Friendship Ball for the first time.

Back in March, led by the grand marshal herself, Nena Kaufman orchestrated a PAFCOM event across the river, and brought the Grand Marshal Night to New York for the first time.

“An Evening of Beauty & Fashion” will roll out the red carpet for the PAFCOM beauties on May 21, starting 6 p.m., at the Margaret William’s Theatre in New Jersey City University, 2039 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, N.J.

The event is co-sponsored by NJCU’s Office of Grants & Sponsored Programs, in celebration of Asian American Heritage Month in May.

GMA-TV is PAFCOM’s official media sponsor.

The evening has three parts, the main one being the presentation of muses.

The 2011 PAFCOM beauties are:

• Mrs. PAFCOM, Margie Wisotsky of Glendale, N.Y.

• Miss PAFCOM, Criselda Sarenas of Wallingford, CT

• Bb. Pilipinas PAFCOM, Vanessa Liwag of Union, N.J.

• Mutya ng Silangan, Stephanie Sommers of Sparta, N.J.

• Miss Liberty, Francina Persaud of Kearney, N.J.

• Ms. Teen PAFCOM, Ellie Velez of Jersey City, N.J.

• Ms. Little PAFCOM, Desiree Wisotsky of Glendale, N.Y.

To add a splash of vogue, the second part will feature a fashion show with a collection of evening to Filipiniana dresses designed by Philippine fashion icon Emmanuel Guinto.

His inspirations are sure to wow audiences with a diverse selection from dramatic gowns with exaggerated silhouettes to slinky ensembles draped close to the body.

Last but not the least, the third offering is a slate of international and local favorite performers who will take the stage to round up the evening with first rate entertainment.

The line-up is headlined by Michael Cruz from the hit game show “Singing Bee” and former international fashion model and actress/singer Stella Ruiz-Peredo.

The list of entertainers includes comedian Air Tabigue, dancers Craig & Samantha Abaya Campos, singers Kirby Asunto, Alyssa Shoemaker, Allan Pacla, Tiffany Viray, Apple Vee, Jared Philippe and more.

The event is expected to draw a big, mixed audience — families, community leaders, dignitaries, fashion aficionados and fans of performers both young and old.

Among the distinguished guests will be Consul General Mario Lopez de Leon, Jr. who will give the keynote speech for the night.

“The PAFCOM muses deserve to have their own night,” said Gani Puertollano, PAFCOM Overall Chair.

“This is a must-see event that showcases our muses, talented Filipino performers, and one of our own celebrated fashion designers.”

“‘An Evening of Beauty and Fashion’ will be like going to the Oscars,” said Luchie Vivas, Co-Chair of the Coronation Night Committee.

“We wanted to give the community something fun and memorable. This will be a spectacular show and we invite the public to come and witness this event.”

The parade will feature Top 21 organizations in the Northeast USA, various dignitaries, special guests and VIP entertainers from the Philippines, and a variety of marching bands and colorful floats.

At the end of the parade will be a cultural festival featuring local performers, food vendors and exhibitors from various organizations.
