Did you know that Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez, the Philippines’ concert king and queen, were among the global artists that performed at the iconic Roseland Ballroom on 52nd Street in Manhattan, which is closing down with a series of seven Lady Gaga concerts (all sold out) that began March 30 and ends on April 7?

The post-Valentine concert, titled “King & Queen of Hearts,” was produced on Feb. 19, 1993 by Lemar International’s Ramon and Ching Legarda; and Red and Alice Martinez.

It was Martin & Pops’ third concert in the Big Apple several years before their marriage ended.

It was hailed as one of the most successful in the Fil-Am concert scene.

“It was on a post snowstorm weekend,” producer Ching Legarda vividly recalled.

“So memorable because it was sold out, too, and people lined up in the cold because Roseland wasn’t yet ready to open following the storm.”

The concert’s special guest was stand up comedian Jon Santos in his New York debut performance, impersonating the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, who just tied the knot with the dashing congressman from Batangas, Ralph Recto.

Roseland opened in 1919 on 51st Street as a ballroom dance hall and moved to its current location on 52nd Street in 1956.

Over the decades, the venue hosted concerts by prolific musicians and special events such as Hillary Clinton’s birthday party in January.
