IN principle, President Noynoy Aquino, and every citizen indeed, has the right to criticize the decisions of the Supreme Court.

AFTER 25 years of tacitly blessing and abetting the holding of Simbang Gabi (Night Masses) every Christmas season at the Philippine Center in mid-Manhattan, the Archdiocese of New York abruptly decided to put an end to this beautiful tradition, contending these Masses are “celebrated outside a sacred place of worship.”

 

THAT no one is above the law was clearly demonstrated when former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was placed under arrest after a trial court found probable cause to charge her and several others with cheating in the 2007 senatorial elections.

 

LEST we forget, we are still a government of laws, not of men, or one man, to be precise.

UNLIKE the bloody Arab Spring upheavals in the Middle East which overthrew dictatorships in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya, Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is a rebellion against corporate greed, social and economic disparity and an ineffective government accused of massive bailout of reeling banks and other financial sectors.
