Historic exhibit on Filipinos in America at Stony Brook    
 
FEB. 12—An important exhibit called "Singgalot -The Ties that Bind: Filipinos in   America from Colonial Subjects to Citizens," will be on view from Feb. 12 to April 22  at Charles B. Wang Center, Room 201, Stony Brook, N.Y. 11794 (Exit 62 off LIE).  Community opening program on March 3 (at 3 p.m.) and campus opening reception on  March 8 (at 6 p.m.). Free admission. Developed by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program,  it tells of the lives, culture, community, and achievements of Filipino Americans. Rarely seen historical images detail Filipino migration between 1906 and 1935 as Hawai'i sugar plantations, West Coast farms, and Alaskan canneries. When the U.S. Government sounded the call to armsin the 1940s, Filipino immigrants answered, serving as infantrymen and earning respect from a grateful nation.
