SEPT. 21—The University of the Philippines Alumni Association, New Jersey Chapter (UPAANJ) is sponsoring “Triumph of Philippine Art” at The Segal Gallery of Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J. from Sept. 21, 2013 to Dec. 15, 2013. Admission is free. The exhibit and lecture series will showcase works by Filipino and Filipino-American visual artists of contemporary Philippine art inspired by the socio-political and economic struggles during the Martial Law period to the bloodless revolution recognized worldwide as People Power of 1986, and into the changing imagery of a free and confident art leading into the 21st century. Our Lady of Peñafrancia fiesta celebration in Jersey

SEPT. 21—The Our Lady of Penafrancia Devotees Association (Tri-State) Inc., in cooperation with The  Bicolandia Association Inc of the Eastern Seaboard USA, will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia with a daily mass and novena starting at 7 p.m. from Sept. 13 to 20 at Our Lady of Victories Church, 2217 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07305. Handang Tumulong presents ‘Lakad Tulong’ run/walk

SEPT. 22—The non-profit group Handang Tumulong Foundation, Inc. (HTFI), based in the New York-New Jersey area, will stage its annual “Loves 2 Help: the 5K/1.5K Run/Walk” at Stephen R. Gregg Park, on 43rd St. & JFK Blvd., Bayonne, N.J. Billed as “Lakad Tulong,” it aims to benefit disaster victims in the Philippines and elsewhere. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Registration fee is $35 at the site ($30 if pre-registered). Parking is available. N.Y. screenings of Filipino movie ‘Rise and Dream’

SEPT. 27 & 28—The Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) and the Catholic Fellowship of Young Filipino Professionals will present the film “Rise and Dream,” the story of 13 young Filipinos learning their traditional culture and lifestyle in southern Philippines. The film, its filmmakers and cast members are on tour and will make their New York stop on these dates.
