Fil Ams for Hillary joined thousands of supporters at the June 7 Primary Night Watch Party with Hillary Clinton at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Led by New York Chair Loida Nicolas Lewis, a number of FA4HNY members cheered Clinton as she gave her historic victory speech that evening after having secured the number of delegates to become the United States first female nominee for president.

After winning the primaries in New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota and California, she became the presumptive Democratic nominee with 2,768 delegates.

Clinton thanked supporters for their hard work in campaigning and supporting her.

She acknowledged that her win started in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, N.Y.

Calling for unity, she acknowledged Bernie Sanders’ well-fought campaign and cited that it has been “very good for the Democratic Party and for America.”

She talked about her mother and how she helped shape her career.

“My mother believed that life is about serving others,” she said.

“And she taught me never to back down from a bully — which it turns out was pretty good advice.”

“I wish she could see her daughter become the Democratic Party’s nominee,” she said.

“It was amazing. Hillary indeed gave her historic speech with confidence, eloquence and brilliance,” said Lewis.

“Between Donald and Hillary, between an egotistical uninformed demagogue and a visionary achiever, it is a no-brainer. It’s Hillary!”

Citing the support and encouragement of mothers, Aries Dela Cruz, President of the Filipino American Democratic Club NY, said that his mother, Tess Abutanmo Dela Cruz, informed Clinton as she met supporters after her speech that her son, the Fil Am Democratic Club and Filipino-Americas supported her.

“Hillary has listened to us just as she has listened to Filipino-Americans all over the United States. The contrast between her and Donald Trump could not be clearer. Clinton listens and finds solutions while Donald Trump threatens and harangues. Filipino-Americans deserve so much more than what he has to offer, and that is why I call on our community to unite behind our party’s presumptive, historic and glass-shattering nominee, Hillary Clinton,” said Dela Cruz.

The New York contingent of Fil Ams for Hillary, Angie Cruz, Edwin Josue, Juliet Payabyab, Joe Ramos, Jerry Sibal and Marilyn Abalos, attended the event.

The group shared the bleachers and floor with thousands of other supporters: from Vanessa of the Hillary Campaign, to Marci and son Eli visiting from Arkansas, to former U.S. Ambassador Betty King to Geneva, to Anthea of the UN, to Betsy of TransPacNY, to Dolores of the Human Rights Campaign.

“Next stop — The White House!” exclaimed Lewis.
