The officers and members of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations-Region 1 (NaFFAA-1) covering eight states in the U.S. Northeast Region called on new Philippine Consul General Theresa Dizon-de Vega at the Philippine Consulate General in New York.

The delegation led by NaFFAA Region 1 Chair Dr. Aida Rivera of Pennsylvania discussed with Consul General Dizon-de Vega the major strides made by Filipino-Americans in terms of the  increased political representation in various Northeast States at the Council-level.

The group also spoke about continuing advocacies on immigration issues, proposed legislation benefitting Filipinos and Filipino-Americans, labor issues, connecting with the next generation of Filipino-Americans, and encouraging qualified Filipino-American to register and vote.

It was noted that the overall the involvement of second and third generation Filipino-Americans in various sociopolitical advocacies is increasing.

Just this year, 31-year old Brendan Flores was elected overall NaFFAA Chair while another next generation Fil-Am Steven Raga serves on the NaFFAA Board.

Consul General Dizon-de Vega reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to work with various advocacy groups to further promote Philippine and Filipino-American interests.

She cited the “Know Your Rights” Series which the Consulate will further intensify in the coming months in cooperation with various advocacy groups. 

She likewise assured NaFFAA that the Consulate’s pioneering programs on connecting with the next generation will continue.
