REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Leila and her children were in the Philippines, waiting for their petition to be current.

Leila’s father — a U.S. citizen — had filed their petition many years ago, and it was just a matter of time before it would become current.

Things were going according to plan, except for the news that the petitioner was stricken with cancer.

His days were suddenly numbered.

This sudden turn of events caused Leila’s family to panic.

It is a general rule that once the petitioner dies, the petition dies with him.

All the years that the family patiently waited would have been for nothing.

And Leila’s father would not have the chance to see his daughter and his grandchildren migrate to the U.S.

It was a race against time.

The family consulted with the Law Offices of Michael Gurfinkel to seek his advice and expertise.

They needed legal help to expedite the processing of their visas in order that Leila could make it in time to be at her father's deathbed.

Leila’s father was hanging on life support.

And the family’s hopes were hanging on a limb.

With much faith and prayers, and the able handling of the Law Offices of Michael Gurfinkel, the visas were “expedited.”

On April 30, 2010, Leila and her children got their visas.

The very next day, on May 1st, Leila and children arrived in Hawaii and went straight to see her father in the hospital.

It was a very touching and tearful reunion.

Leila’s father shed tears of joy at this final grace of being able to see his daughter and his grandchildren — the fulfillment of a dying father’s wish.

On May 7, 2010, six days after their family reunion, Leila’s father passed away — content and at peace that everything turned out fine.
