The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. announced Tuesday that it will be closed on May 1 and May 27 in observance of Philippine and U.S. holidays.

In announcements posted on its website and Twitter account, the embassy said May 1, Labor Day, is a Philippine holiday, while May 27, Memorial Day, is a U.S. holiday.

“The Philippine Embassy will be closed on Wednesday, May 1 to commemorate Labor Day and on Monday, May 27 to observe Memorial Day,” the embassy said.

However, Filipinos in emergencies who may need embassy assistance may call 202.368.2767 or 202.467.9300, it said.

Labor Day is a celebration of the international labor movement, and is marked in more than 80 countries, including the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday remembering those who died serving the U.S. Armed Forces in all wars.

It is observed on the last Monday of May.

On this day, Americans are expected to visit cemeteries and memorials to honor those who died in the military service.
