McDonald’s and the Korean American Family Service Center celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by presenting a special Asian cultural show at J.H.S. 189 Daniel Carter Beard in Flushing, N.Y.

The program showcased traditional and modern cultural performances by local Asian-American artists that included Korean drumming, Indian folk dance and Chinese martial arts.

Hosted by Ronald McDonald, the event also featured special guests, including Flushing Assemblyman Ron Kim.

Last year, McDonald’s and the Korean American Family Service Center collaborated to present their first ever Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebration in Flushing.

Attended by 500 spectators, the event was warmly received by parents and children and commended by Councilman Peter Koo.

This year’s show featured additional performances and the involvement of student organizations from New York University and Baruch College.

“McDonald’s is thrilled to be working with the Korean American Family Service Center again to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month,” said Tony Scari, McDonald’s New York Metro Co-op President.

“We received such a wonderful response last year that we decided to make this year’s show even bigger and better.”

About the performances

NYU Rhythmic Impulse (NYURI) is a traditional Korean drum troupe comprised of Korean-American students from New York University.

NYURI’s mission is to educate the public about the art of traditional Korean drumming through performances and education workshops.

The Indian Student Association of Baruch College performs traditional Indian dance throughout the tri-state area to promote Indian culture and to increase Indo-American relationships between the Indians and non-Indians.

The McDonald’s Martial Arts Dance Crew is a group of young Asian-American dancers who blend hip-hop with kung fu to create a unique and exciting cross-cultural experience.
