Dr. Laura Domingo-Garcia (pictured above) is one of the recipients of this year’s tribute to excellence: The Outstanding Father Saturnino Urios Alumni Award (TOFAA).

The TOFAA is conferred on alumni who have achieved excellence in their chosen fields, who have made an impact in the community where they are situated, and who have made their alma mater proud.

Atty. Patrick Battad, a former high school classmate, nominated Dr. Garcia for this prestigious award.

Attorney Abarquez then accepted the award on Dr. Garcia’s behalf, on May 13, 2017 in Butuan City, Philippines.

Dr. Garcia resides in New York City and couldn’t be present to receive the award.

However, the main reason that Dr. Garcia couldn’t grace the 40th Year Anniversary event is that she was required to attend commencement on May 17 at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey to receive her doctoral diploma.

Dr. Garcia was sad she couldn’t join her high school classmates for their reunion in order to personally accept the award, but thanks her batch mates for accepting the award on her behalf.

Dr. Garcia graduated high school in 1977 at the Urios College High School (UCHS), which is now Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU).

The year 2017, therefore, marks the 40th year after which she sallied forth from the portals of the very institution that equipped her with an excellent educational foundation enabling her to achieve this accolade.

Dr. Garcia completed two Bachelors degrees, two Masters degrees, and continued to strive to reach greater achievements — and for the stars.

When she stepped up to add a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree to her credentials, Dr. Garcia fully embodied the paradigm of teacher, scholar, dedicated colleague and committed professional.

We all applaud her substantial academic endeavors.
