Currently accepting applications on the official Facebook page, SNY PLAY BALL is a program to support youth baseball and softball programs (6-12) in communities in the New York metropolitan area, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania (Pike County) and Long Island.
SNY will invite selected leagues to a Mets game experience at Citi Field and give recognition on-air during the game broadcast and highlight individuals and selected leagues daily on air during “Play Ball Week” prior to the start of the baseball season.
Nominees are given the opportunity to win the following:
1. BASEBALL TOMORROW FUND GRANTS:
In conjunction with the BTF/Mets Field Maintenance Clinic, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund will award two $5,000 grants to youth baseball and softball organizations for field maintenance supplies, equipment and materials. League representatives will also be honored at Citi Field during a Mets game. Briefly describe your need for this grant and outline budget allocation (if selected, SNY and/or the Baseball Tomorrow Fund may require additional information).
2. BTF/METS FIELD MAINTENANCE CLINIC:
As a part of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund Field Maintenance Education Program, the New York Mets grounds crew will conduct a Field Maintenance Clinic at Citi Field. The clinic will teach best practices on field maintenance. Please explain why you would like administrators from your league to take part in this clinic.
3. EQUIPMENT DONATION:
SNY will be donating new baseballs and softballs to leagues across the tri-state area. How would your league benefit from receiving new baseballs/softballs?
4. SNY VOLUNTEER PROJECT:
SNY employees will be volunteering at youth baseball and softball leagues in the tri-state area this year. We are looking for a one-day project that could include helping with a field clean-up day, equipment hand-out day, tournaments, buddy programs, etc. Please explain when and how you could use our volunteers.
5. DREAM DAY:
SNY will be giving one deserving candidate a chance to live out his/her major league dream. If you know of a candidate who has fought through adversity, volunteered time to help others, excelled in the classroom or on the field, or inspired your community in another way, please nominate a deserving candidate and detail his/her major league dream.
