Special to the Filipino Reporter

More than 500 people filled the Eastern Civic Center in Old Greenwich, Connecticut for the opening of the Kabayan Cup 3 - Basketball League on Jan. 22.

This is an annual project organized by the Filipino Amateur League of Connecticut or FALConn.

All 27 teams with their respective muses joined in the parade.

Jeric Guico, the Most Valuable Player in the 2010 Kabayan Cup 2 led the Oath of Sportsmanship.

According to FALConn president Eduardo Cabello, this season is more competitive due to the increase in the number of teams who registered as compared to last year’s 15 teams.

The new ones came from other areas in New York and Connecticut in addition to the regular teams from Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk and Westchester.

This is also the first time that a women’s division was included in their basketball league.

However, since there are only three (women) teams now, registration is still open for interested groups.

The women’s game is scheduled in June.

The participating teams are:

Men’s Junior Division - Birds; ROTEKS; CT Ballerz; PROCARE; Crusaders; Philippine Eagles; Westchester (White Plains, N.Y.); Rebels; Tiradors (Milford, CT); WBFAA (Bronx); Labuyo; Rockland (Rockland, N.Y.); KAPWA (White Plains, N.Y.); and PAREKOY (West Haven).

Men’s Senior Division - Labuyo; Saints; PROCARE; Philippine Eagles; Dos Exxis; Katipuneros; ROTEKS; WBFAA; Rockland; and Compadres.

Women’s Division - Philippine Angels; CT Slammers; and Sports Challenge Team (NY).

Six teams played in the initial games with the following results:
