Former New York Deputy Consul General Zaldy Patron assumes the position of Deputy Consul General at the Philippine Consulate in Calgary, Canada effective April 5, 2018.

DCG Patron was assigned in New York from 2008-2014 where he became endeared to Filipinos.

Until his Calgary post, Patron was Executive Director of the Office of ASEAN Affairs in Manila.

He and his group organized and managed the successful 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila last November.

The “Mabuhay Calgary” Facebook, composed of Filipinos in the Calgary area, welcomed their new Deputy Con Gen.

In a post on March 21, 2018, it said, “The Filipino Community in Alberta welcomes the assignment of Deputy Consul General Zaldy B. Patron to the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary.”

The Filipino Reporter learned there are 175,000 Filipinos under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Calgary.

DCG Patron joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1996.

Prior to his assignment at the Philippine Consulate General in New York in September 2008, he served as Director of the Office of ASEAN Affairs in Manila.

He was also assigned as Second Secretary and Consul at the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil from 2002 to 2005; and as Third Secretary and Vice Consul at the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia from 1999 to 2002.

From 1996 to 1999, he held various positions in the DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs, Office of Asia and Pacific Affairs, Office of Protocol, and Office of Policy Planning and Coordination.

Mr. Patron was conferred the Gawad Mabini Award (rank of Dakilang Kasugo) in August 2007 for his performance in the Philippine hosting of the 40th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and related meetings in Manila.

He was a participant in the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program on “U.S. Foreign Policy in the ASEAN Framework” held in September 2007.

Deputy Con Gen Patron graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a degree in bachelor of science in economics and earned his master in business administration degree from the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business.

He is married to a fellow UPLB alumna, Sheila Castillo Patron.

They have four children.
